OGMORE VALE & DISTRICT DARTS LEAGUE

WHAT a night of darts in the Ogmore league with no fewer than nine maximums being hit along with three ton+ finishes and plenty of low dart legs.

We’ll start the report at the top of the table, where the big two went head to head – not only Paul Williams and Billy Absalom also top placed Vetz v Blaengarw Rugby and it was the rugby who came out on top with a closerun 5-4 victory.

For the home team, Will Struthers hit a 180 and Paul Williams a 103 finish while for the Vetz, Billy Absalom also hit a 180 and Mike Huntley a 101 finish in a 15-dart leg.

At the Con Ogmore the Blaen were the visitors, however, it was the home team who took the spoils 6-3.

This game saw Chris Hanford, Dan Gillett and Nathan Evans all hit maximums for the Blaen.

The Nanty Inn travelled down to face the Pant and came away with a 5-4 win.

For the Pant, Clive Carpenter and Ian Williams won their pairs and singles games along with Dai Frowen.

For the Inn, Andrew Hillman and Nigel Blowing also John Hillman and Mark Lewis won their pairs.

Then Lewis, Blowing and Chris Hillman, who drove in a 180, won their singles.

Third placed Social came away from Nanty Rugby with a 5-4 win thanks to pairs wins for Andrew Lane and Steve Bowen, then Chris Packman and John Pritchard, with Johnny Clayton and Wade Williams replying for the Rugby.

The singles were then shared with Clayton, Andrew Williams and John Collins, who also hit a 180 and an 18-dart leg winning for the Rugby and his opponent John Pritchard hitting a 180 in a 16-dart leg.

Packman, Lane and Nick Winn were the winners for the Social.

In a re-arranged game, the Colliers beat Ogmore Rugby 6-3 with pairs wins for Matt Martin and Tony Gronow also Lyndon Phillip and Clive Gronow with the up and coming youngsters Dai Gunter and Derek Skinner replying for the Rugby.

The Colliers then won four singles through Martin, Phillip, Wayne Short and the man with two first names Huw Anthony while for the rugby there was successes for Dai Gunter, who hit a 180 and a 105 finish, and Alan Sadd.

Next week it’s the pairs at the Con Ogmore, where Andrew Hermolle and Lyndon Phillip will try to defend the title they won so brilliantl­y last year.
