DIVISION TWO GARW ............................. 7 AFC BARGOED ............. 1

GARW brought the curtain down on a championship-winning season in scoring a magnificent seven goals against relegation-threatened AFC Bargoed, writes Tony Poole.

In what proved a golden winter for the Blandy boys, they won 24 and drew two of 28 league matches.

The two blots on their copy book came away to Llanrumney United and at iconic former Welsh League club Tynte Rovers.

During their final game of the season, there was a carnival atmosphere at Blandy – and ultimately Garw fans didn’t want to stop the carnival.

With the grandstand packed to the rafters, home fans weren’t, however, beaming after bottom-placed AFC Bargoed took a shock early lead.

But the loyal following hit the roof once Lewis James scored twice before the break to set up a 2-1-interval scoreline.

During the half-time break, two Garw junior teams continued the high level of entertainment.

Once the more serious stuff resumed, Garw stretched the lead to 3-1 on the back of a goal from ex-Betws star Arran Jeffreys.

Oliver Davies made sure Garw ended the season on a winning note, and home fans were then on their feet to salute Lew- is James on completing a sizzling hat-trick.

Just like buses another Lewis James goal wasn’t far behind, and Jeffreys then punched their ticket to seventh heaven against the deflated men from the Rhymney Valley.

With the season now reduced to history, events will be recalled during the club’s Annual Presentation Night on May 20.

It’s being staged at Kevin Day Towers at the Vetz Club, and a £10 ticket will cover a lavish barbeque while live music and disco will allow partygoers to dance the night away.

Garw then embark on an end of season tour on June 9 that will take them to Alicante and on to Costa Blanca.
