CHEPSTOW TOWN ....... 1 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 1

IT will still be a major surprise if Llantwit Major fail to overhaul STM Sports and win league honours, writes Tony Poole.

Despite dropping two points to a late Chepstow equaliser last Saturday, the Windmillers will go into the clash at Ely Rangers tonight (Wednesday) only trailing the St Mellons side by a point with two games in hand.

STM have just one game left to play – Caerau away on Saturday week – while Llantwit Major host Trethomas Bluebirds this Saturday and round things off at Bridgend Street a week tonight.

The Windmillers let the train take the strain to get them to Chepstow, and then spent the night in the town’s Heartbreak Hotel after leaking an 85th minute equaliser.

Having won the reverse match earlier in the month, 3-0, the Windmillers lacked precision following early domination.

A few Shaun BarneyWilliams headers just missed the target while Rhys Llewellyn had a seemingly good goal ruled out.

It was goal-less at half time and during the second period, Llantwit Major were the better side.

They went ahead in the 50th minute when Jonny Butler served a long throw in that Barney flicked on for fox in the box Luke Cox to get a 10th goal of the season.

But chief Windmiller Karl Lewis then opted for the winds of change with Gareth Davies, Tom Dante and Sammy Snaith and blowing out Cox, Lee Jones and top scorer Rob Jones.

Some travelling Windmillers queried the changes, especially when a heavy touch prevented substitute Dante making it 2-0.

And during final knockings, Llantwit Major seemed to invite pressure – and Chepstow punished it with an equaliser.

A long ball led to crossed wires at the back, and Leo Ross nipped in to beat goalkeeper Jack Landsdown.

And during time added on, Landsdown twice saved their bacon with two meaty saves.
