PORTHCAWL TOWN ATH .................... 1 CLWB CYMRIC .............. 3

PORTHCAWL Town Athletic ran out of gas during this Lock’s Lane defeat against promotion hopefuls Clwb Cymric, writes Tony Poole.

While more rested on this end of season clash for the Cardiff visitors – who needed points to keep on fuelling a promotion push while Porthcawl were safe from relegation – it didn’t seem the case during the opening half.

The Seasiders were the more ambitious side, showing pace and invention up top through the speedy quartet of Jorge Crofts, Andy Fisher, Jordan Marks and Morgan Thomas – and should have been more than a goal up at the break.

The goal unfolded in the 10th minute when a Morgan Thomas cross led to goalie Evan Jones running it along the cross bar.

But the subsequent corner from Marks arced on the wind, and went straight in for a ninth goal of the campaign.

Two minutes later Clwb Cymric should have equalised via Huw Owen, but goalie Tom Booth got enough on it to keep it out.

Porthcawl continued to look dangerous in attack and in the 44th minute, Fisher had a low shot well saved by goalkeeper Jones.

But an injury to Morgan Thomas led to him failing to appear for the second half, and Josh Price took his place.

However, that proved a body blow for Porthcawl, who have a poor record this season of defending leads.

They held on until the hour mark when a floated Tom Davies cross resulted in Dylan Roberts depositing a low shot in the net.

In the 63rd minute, Marks almost gave Porthcawl back the lead, but his shot was blocked on the goal-line by Dylan Roberts.

However, as an attacking force that was the end of the line for the Seasiders, who gradually faded off the radar.

During final knockings, all the attacking intent came from Clwb Cymric with late goals from Ryan David and Rhodri W Williams sealing all three points.
