PONTYCYMER ............ 20 ABERCRAVE ............... 26

PONTYCYMER met Abercrave for the second time in seven days, this was the final game of Ponty’s season.

It was the home side that started the stronger and it was not long before Ponty’s second row Leon Roberts, broke the deadlock with a fantasic solo try.

Shortly after the opening score, the Lawrence Park outfit were at it again this time a gorgeously timed pass from Tom Davies, put winger Tomos Harris into space to cross for their second. Back came Abercrave with a converted try, then just before half-time, Tom Davies fired over a monster penalty making it 13-7 to Pontycymer at the interval.

The visitors flew out of the blocks straight from the restart, crossing for a brace of tries one of which was converted, taking the lead at 19-13. With 10 minutes left, pacey replacement winger Steve Gillet came on, Pontycymer had kept their best for last as Ponty’s man with the midas touch Gillet danced around the visiting defence to score out wide. Ross Pearce converted putting the Green and Ambers back infront at 20-19.

Then in almost the last play of the season, Abercrave broke Pontycymer’s hearts with a converted try to take the spoils.

A huge thank you must go to everbody who has helped out this season from offical club photographer Tim Dobbs, the programme sellers, the coaches, the committee, the loyal band of supporters and, of course, the players.
