BLAENGARW Rugby closed the gap on leaders the Vetz to eight points with a game in hand, after the Vetz suffered a 5-4 defeat at the Social and the Rugby gained a 5-4 victory at the Colliers.

For the Vetz, Lee Haines hit a 103 finish while for the Social, Andrew Lane hit a 114 finish in an 18-dart leg and John Pritchard a 102 out.

Meanwhile, a few doors away at the Colliers, it was the home team who struck first taking the opening two pairs through Matt Martin with Tony Gronow then Lyndon Phillip and Andrew Hermolle before Steve Dent and Will Struthers hit back for the Garw boys, who then won four singles courtesy of Peter Jones, Phil Rice, Paul Williams and all-rounder Struthers again, with Hermolle and Martin getting two for the Colliers. In the other game of re-arranged fixtures, the Pant came away from the Inn with a 5-4 win. Pant took the first pairs through Ian Williams and Clive Carpenter. However the home team replied through Chris Hillman with Brian Owen and Mark Lewis with John Hillman prowling home. Skipper Lewis then made it 3-1 to the Inn. However, Stu Angove, Ian Williams and Josh Jones put the Pant ahead before John Hillman leveled it up at 4-4. However it was that man Darryl Gardner’s turn to step into the headlights and he was not found wanting and dug in to close the game out in favor of the Pant. Everyone in the league wishes the Inn landlord Roger a speedy recovery from his present illness.
