LLANTWIT Major will next month reflect on winning Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division Three during their Annual Presentation Evening, writes Tony Poole.
The Windmillers are staging the event in the clubhouse on June 9 when warm beer from the hatch is set to flow.
Ultimately, the close season couldn’t come quick enough having played an unbelievable 13 matches in the space of five weeks.
But they ended up worthy champions, and plans are already underway to consolidate next winter in Division Two.
Fine runs in two cup competitions resulted in the Windmillers suffering a massive logjam with regard to their Division Three programme.
In the JD Welsh Cup, victories over Penlan, Sully Sports and Llandrindod Wells led to a pre-Christmas pilgrimage to Welsh Premiership club Cefn Druids.
Though the Windmillers gave it their best shot, they bowed out on a 2-0 scoreline.
In the Welsh League’s Nathaniel Cars Cup, they beat the Division Two duo of Croesyceiliog and Aberdare Town to set up an October derby showdown with Barry Town United.
And the Windmillers gained a famous 1-0 win over the Dragons on the back of a dream Rob Jones strike.
But they then lost 1-0 at home to Caerau Ely in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
Looking ahead to next season, the team will again be built around some very good ex-Penybont players, who are blowing Windmill Lane away.
During the title-winning campaign just completed, Llantwit Major scored 87 goals.
Top scorer with 18 was Rob Jones.
