LLANGYNWYD Rangers U15s just missed out on a Bridgend & District League double, writes Tony Poole.

Having been crowned league champions, the Llan Siro youngsters chased more silverware against rivals Aberkenfig in the cup final at Bridgend super club Penybont.

The league encounters between the clubs had proved close run affairs - and the cup final proved no different with Aberkenfig emerging with a slender 2-1 success.

In another cat and mouse encounter, it was Aberkenfig who had their tails up at the break on the back of a 1-0 lead.

Llan had twice clipped the woodwork and on the resumption the action came thick and fast.

They thought they had the equaliser on the hour when Lloyd Freeman powered through on goal only to shoot narrowly wide.

But from the ensuing goal kick, the Llan defence switched off and Aberkenfig duly doubled the lead.

With nothing now to lose, the league champions went gung-ho and pressure eventually reaped dividends.

Sean Lake headed home from a corner, and suddenly it was once more game on.

During dying embers, Llan made a desperate bid to retrieve the situation, but the Aberkenfig defence remained steadfast and they closed out the win.

But once the final whistle blew, rivalries were placed to one side and although disappointed, Llan cheered Aberkenfig lifting the cup.
