SEVEN cars on one street have been badly scratched – with the total repair costs potentially running into thousands of pounds.

Police were called to Highfields in Brackla, Bridgend, when the damage was discovered.

Cars parked outside their owners’ houses were scratched along almost their entire length overnight between Sunday and bank holiday Monday.

Two cars belonging to Grace Mansfield, 50, were scratched, along with her daughter’s car.

She believes only cars parked on one side of the street were targeted.

“It’s absolutely atro- cious,” said the bank worker.

“It looks like it’s been done with a screwdriver. A neighbour came and alerted me on Monday morning. We think it happened between Sunday and early Monday.

“My daughter’s car was also done and she is only visiting from university. They have gone right along the street.

“I don’t know what the mentality of these people is. I have heard of this happening in other streets and it’s getting too much now.”

Grace said another neighbour has CCTV and she is hoping the culprit was captured on camera.

“I bought my Honda CRV to pull the caravan and I need to repair it as the scratch is really noticeable – but who knows what the insurance premiums are going to be,” she said.

“I have lived in the street a long time and nothing like this has ever happened before. At Christmas I woke up and found someone had ripped my wing mirror off but we’ve never had anything like this before.”

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police is investigating after seven cars were damaged in Brackla over the bank holiday.

“The vehicles, which were all parked in Highfields, were targeted sometime between 6pm on Sunday, May 28 and 12.30pm on Monday, May 29.

“Anyone who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or who has information that could assist with the investigation, is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1700205366.”
