BANDS playing at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl are planning a touching tribute to the victims of the Manchester terror atrocity.

The stars of the ModFest at the Beach show will be releasing balloons from the seafront before the show on Saturday, June 24.

The balloons will be sold for £1 and all of the proceeds raised will go to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which raised £2m in just 24 hours. The money will support people who have been injured or bereaved by the attack following Ariana Grande’s show at the Manchester Arena on May 22. Suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a device, killing 22 people and injuring countless others.

Modfest is being organised by Amanda Lloyd and Kim Smith.

Amanda said that as 15-year-old victim Olivia Campbell’s mum Charlotte and stepdad Paul Hodgson are members of the Skin City Scooter Club in Bolton and will be attending the Modfest at the Beach Show when it reaches Morecambe, they felt they should also pay tribute in Porthcawl.

“The balloons we will be selling for £1 will be pink in memory of Olivia,” said Amanda.

Olivia was a pupil at Tottington High School in Bury, who loved music and singing.

Amanda said as well as the sale of the balloons, Jennie Bellestar Matthias, former lead singer of ’80s all-girl band The Belle Stars and host of Modfest at the Beach, will be collecting money outside the Grand Pavilion and old mobile phones, which will also be used to generate funds.

ModFest at the Beach is on at 7.30pm on June 24. The balloon release will take place at around 5.30pm.
