Motorcyclists’ ride-out raises £4k for Ty Hafan
MORE than £4,000 has been raised for children’s hospice Ty Hafan by Pencoed-based motorcycle riders club – The Loones Wales.
Ty Hafan is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities and offers care to children and support for their families throughout Wales.
Matt Bolger, trading general manager for Ty Hafan, said: “When we heard The Loones were going to do a motorcycle ride-out for Ty Hafan, it sounded like something really fun that would attract lots of supporters. But we never dreamed that the community and local businesses would get behind it so much.
“The £4,041.91 raised by the ride-out is such a huge amount to raise from an event of this type. The Loones have obviously done a fantastic job in organising. We really appreciate all their effort and would like to say a big thank you to everyone that helped or donated.
“It costs almost £12,000 per day to provide Ty Hafan’s services to the life-limited children and their families in Wales, so community support is really important to us.”
The Loones, who only formed a few months ago, are already 40 strong and are taking on new members.
This was their first event for charity which received a fantastic response in support from local business and the public.
This was demonstrated by the 70 riders who donated to include themselves on the day.
In fact, motorcyclists arrived from all over Wales and England helping to make the day a fan- tastic success and a lot of fun.
Andrew Thomas, president of The Loones, said: “It was a fantastic day and a great result for Ty Hafan.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy and the enthusiastic support from local businesses and the public was, quite honestly, overwhelming. A massive thank you to all that contributed to ensure this event was such a success.
“We are an expand- ing club of like-minded people that enjoy riding our motorcycles for pleasure on a regular basis and if anyone would like to be involved inquiries can be left on our Facebook page – The Loones Wales.”
Setting out from The Chatterton Arms, Pencoed, and riding in convoy to Ty Hafan House, Barry, the route included high streets located at Cowbridge and Barry town centre with members of The Loones support crew encouraging the public to donate along the way.
Afterwards the event included an evening of entertainment at The Chatterton Arms where a popular local band The Evil Turkeys gave their services for the cause.
There was also overwhelming support from local businesses who donated prizes towards the raffle on the night.
