Smyrna Penyfai: Sunday School is held every weekend from 10.30am12noon for stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work.

A coffee morning is held on Tuesday, from 10am-noon with good company and a raffle is also held in aid of local charities.

Bible study takes place on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and is led in turn by Mrs Marlyn James and Miss Dorithy Evans.

The Sunday service for June 25 will be led by Rev John D Davies. All are welcome to the service and to join us for refreshmen­ts in the vestry afterwards.

Love2Walk Festival: The festival returns later this month for nine days of walking and experience­s showcasing the very best of the great outdoors in Bridgend.

The festival, which is being run in partnershi­p with the Bridgend Local Access Forum, takes place between Saturday 17 and Sunday 25 June. Best of all it’s free.

Strawberry Fayre: Bridgend United Church, Tondu Road, hold their Strawberry Fayre this Saturday June 24, from 10am-12noon. Admission is £3, which includes a scone with strawberry and cream, refreshmen­ts, various stalls, raffle, home made cake stall and much more. All are welcome.

Family and Local History Fair: Organised by Glamorgan Family History Society and local history societies.

The Fair will take place this Saturday June 24, from 10am-3pm at Aberkenfig Resource Centre (ARC) for family history at the Len Evans Centre, Heol Persondy, Aberkenfig.

With free admission and free parking, this is a chance to meet representa­tives of local groups, societies, and visit our archives and the Glamorgan Family History Resource Centre.

Bridgend Probus: Meet every other Thursday at the Caerfatri Inn, Coity Road. The club is made up of retired business and profession­al gentlemen.

After hearing from a guest speaker members normally enjoy lunch together and discuss the morning talk amongst other topics.

The last talk was given by David Bray from Cardiff regaling members with his stories of “living with the big cat” not a four legged variety but a 1970 E type Jaguar!

He told of his trips to Europe in the Jag and the places that opened to welcome them.

Fresh Start Cancer Support Group: Meet at the Hernston Hotel Ewenny Road every second Tuesday at 10.30am. For more informatio­n contact Sue on 01656 653 509. The group recently enjoyed a bus trip to Cardiff Bay. They visited the Senedd for a tour and coffee, followed by lunch then a River Taff boat trip to Cardiff Castle. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

St John’s House (old hospice): The house will be open to the public this Saturday June 24, from 11am-3pm. All are very welcome to come and view Bridgend’s medieval house. Guided walks around the house area also taking place.

Book Sale: Gilead Chapel hold a book sale this Saturday, June 24, from 10am-12noon. Lots of books to choose from for all ages, refreshmen­ts and lots of friendly people to chat to. Also lots of car parking spaces. Gilead Chapel is situated at Heol Spencer, Coity. All are very welcome.

Line Dancing Evening: Bridgend Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care holda Line Dance Evening on Friday, June 30, from 7pm-10pm at the Green Hall Cefn Cribwr.

With Big Al’s Disco and Line Dancing DJ. Bring your own drinks and nibbles and join in for a ‘boot scootin’ evening, with a prize for the best dancer, and great prizes to be won in the raffle.

WWII Memorial Project: A project is about to start on identifyin­g the Bridgend and District men who lost their lives in WWII and whose names are on our war Memorial in Dunraven Place.

If you have any knowledge or if you know of any soldier, RAF, or sailor whose name is on our War Memorial please contact me on 01656 66 3041. Hopefully a commemorat­ive booklet will be published rememberin­g the men of the area.

Philatelic Society: Do you collect postage stamps, post cards? Are you interested in postal history? If so, the Bridgend Philatelic Society meet on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at the Gospel Hall School Room, Llynfi Street, Bridgend. Local History: Bridgend Local and District History Society begin the new season on Wednesday, September 13, at 7pm with Allan Underhill giving an illustrate­d talk on the subject of Images of Bridgend. Registrati­on will also be held on the same evening and the joining fee is £7 (visitors £2).

Bridgend Writers’ Circle: Meet at Carnegie House (former Library) Wyndham Street, on the first Thursday of each month starting at 7.15pm. On Thursday, July 6, the Open Competitio­n Special Presentati­on Evening will take place and entries for the Saviker Competitio­n to be handed in. All are welcome.

Coffee Mornings: These continue every Friday and Saturday, from 10am12noon at Bridgend United Church Tondu Road and all are welcome.

Bridgend Male Choir: The choir next appear in Cardiff at the historical Coal Exchange in Mount Stuart Square.

It has been restored and converted into a luxury hotel, the Exchange Hotel, and the choir will entertain 200 guests at the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) Presidenti­al Dinner on Thursday, June 22.
