Gwyl Maesteg Festival: This year's event will be held throughout the month of June at the Town Hall.

This Saturday, June 24 – Star Search Talent Show Grand Finale with £1,000 prize money to be won!

The expert judges will be Rebecca Evans – Welsh Internatio­nal Soprano Grammy award winner; Nathan Wyburn – The toast artist from Britain's Got Talent and Debbie Chapman – dancer & choreograp­her for stage and screen.

With guest Darren Altman from Britain's Got Talent 2016, It all starts at 7pm and tickets are £6.50.

Friday June 30 – Maesteg Children’s Choir 31st Annual Concert.

The choir, with their musical director Enid-Sian Hughes and accompanis­t Rhian Jenkins, will sing a varied programme of well-known songs.

The popular vocal group Take Note will be their special guests with their musical director Richard Norton and the compere will be Anthony Bwye.

The special joint finale will be the choir and Take Note.

Tickets cost £7 and the concert will start at 7pm

Maesteg U3A: The monthly meeting is next Tuesday, June 27, and the speaker is Polly Davies who will be talking about July the 4th.

Mrs Davies comes from America but now lives in the Neath area.

As well as monthly meetings, there are interest groups which are set up by members – walking (striders, sight seekers and strollers), art appreciati­on, music appreciati­on, family history, French Interludes, book club, gardening and the occasional quiz teams as well as regular monthly lunches, and quiz group.

Strictly Cinema: The regular monthly Town Hall event has musicals as the theme at present.

Next week on Wednesday, June 28, it's Calamity Jane followed by a sing-along with some of the songs from that show.

Summer Fete: At St Cynfelyn's Church, Caerau on Saturday, July 1 from 12noon.

That could mean that you could have your lunch there, because their refreshmen­ts are renowned – and there's a cake stall.

Other stalls include White Elephant, fun & games among many others, plus raffles.

Raffle tickets will also be sold at Tesco.

Strawberri­es: The popular annual Strawberry Tea at Central Church, Maesteg, will be held on Saturday July 8 at 3pm with entertainm­ent and a buffet. Tickets cost £3 and can be bought from church members.

Charity Concert: The concert is in aid of the Kelly Maybury appeal fund. Côr Meibion Maesteg a'r Cylch / Maesteg and District Male Choir are staging a special joint concert with Brecon Male Voice Choir at Maesteg Town Hall on Saturday, July 8.

Côr Meibion's MD will be Huw Morgan and accompanis­t Laura Deenik with Rhian Hughes as soloist.

Aberhonddu and District Male Choir are delighted to have been asked to participat­e in this concert and look forward to many years of friendship with Maesteg Male Choir.

Doors open at 6.30pm to commence at 7pm and the compere for the evening will be the very talented Ross PenhaleTho­mas.

Anniversar­y Concert: Noteworthy Mixed Voice Choir will celebrate their 10th anniversar­y with a special gala concert on Saturday, July 15 at St Michael's Church, Maesteg, from 7.15pm (doors open 6.30pm).

Hosted by Beverley Humphreys and featuring tenor Rhodri Prys Jones.

Cancer Research: The Maesteg Branch of Cancer Research UK are receiving their Flame Hope Award at St Michael's Church Crypt, on Saturday, July 22, from 3pm-6pm. The award is in recognitio­n of their fundraisin­g in the community. Admission is £5 and includes sandwiches, cake and Prosecco (coffee will also be available).

Rangers U12 Football Team: Llangynwyd Rangers BGCW FC, based in Maesteg, are recruiting for an additional team of U12 players for 2017-18 season.

Rotary Club: Maesteg Rotary Club recently made a donation to the local section of the Girl Guides as part of their charity giving.

President Gwynfor handed the cheque over to Angela James District Commission­er of the guides.

Events Diary: There is a Town Events Diary at the Council Offices. All organizati­ons are urged to enter events to avoid overlappin­g or clashing events, etc.

Yoga (seated): For people with mobility difficulti­es – gentle exercise aims to help the release of tension from the body.

Ukelele Club: The Maesteg Ukulele Club meet every Monday (except bank holidays) at 7pm in the Cross Inn, Cwmfelin/Maesteg. For all levels of players – new members are welcome to join.

Men’s Shed: The Men's Shed Maesteg Headquarte­rs is open at the Court House every Thursday from 11am1.30pm. They have been producing a monthly podcast which goes out live on Celtica Radio on the last Wednesday of the month at 8pm, and podcasts are available on the Shedquarte­rs website (https:// maesteg shedquarte­rs. wordpress.com). All welcome, and a hot meal is cooked every week.

Murder: There's a Murder Mystery Book Club which is held at the library in Maesteg Sports Centre. A book for the month is given, you read to a specified page, ring Martyn to say who you think is the murderer, then meet to discuss the book on a Saturday morning. Interested? Choir News: If you like to sing then join our friendly choristers who come from all over the borough.

Côr Meibion Maesteg a'r cylch/Maesteg Male Voice Choir rehearse at the Celtic Club on Thursdays and every other Tuesday from 7pm-9pm on Thursday with a 15-minute break and from 7pm-8.30pm on Tuesdays with no break.

Côr Merched Cwm Llynfi, the Llynfi Valley Ladies Choir rehearse at the Catholic Church – St Mary's and St Patrick's – on Wednesdays, from 7pm-9pm.

Maesteg Gleemen Male Voice Choir rehearse at the British Legion Club, from 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Harmony Ladies Choir rehearse at Nanty Rugby Club, from 7.30pm-9pm on Mondays.

Maesteg Children’s Choir – The children are guaranteed a great time learning new songs. They meet every Saturday in the Crypt of St Michael's Church from 10am-12 noon and pay only £2 a week.

Curtain Up Youth Theatre – Meets every Tuesday at Maesteg Town Hall from 4.15 for primary school age children and 6pm for those of comprehens­ive school age up to 18. Fee

The 631 (Maesteg) Squadron meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings at their Upper Street HQ and welcome boys and girls aged 13 and over.

Available for hire, except Wednesday evenings, with easily accessible, toilets, kitchen and hall all on one level. Ideal for meetings, family parties and most groups at just £10 per hour.

Tir Iarll WI: The next meeting is on Tuesday July 4, from 7pm, at Llangynwyd Primary School, where Sarah Jane Evans from John Lewis will be giving a talk on Personal Styling.

At the June meeting New President Elect Alexis James welcomed members.

Reports were given on a recent trip to Leekes in Llantrisan­t.

Two members had visited the public affairs meeting on Back our Bees and the craft club reported on their trip to Lampeter and Myddfai.

Book Clubs gave their reports and the ramblers reported on their day out at Castell Coch.
