VOLUNTEERS armed with paint brushes and overalls turned out to brighten up a junior school in Cefn Glas, Bridgend.

Llangewydd Junior School opened its gates to staff from Valley to Coast Housing (V2C) and Jistcourt South Wales for the 2017 “Give and Gain Day”.

The afternoon involved a fresh coat of paint for the fencing, decorating the new “radio studio” and adding to the walls of flowers that surround the school.

Head teacher Neil Clode said: “All of us at Llangewydd Junior School were delighted to benefit from the ‘Give & Gain Day’ undertaken by V2C and Jistcourt. Such a lot of work was done and everyone seemed to enjoy the relaxed school atmosphere.”

Emma Norman of Jistcourt said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in V2C’s ‘Give and Gain’ day.

“We worked as a team to deliver improvements to the gates, fencing and walls of the yard, and also managed to paint the new Year 6 radio booth.”

Rachel Morton, of V2C community regenera- tion, said: “It was great to add something to the fabulous work that parent volunteers and Jan from Bethesda Arts are already doing in the school.

“V2C invests a lot of time and energy in our communities, and to work with our contractors to benefit a local school is a real positive.”

This annual international event gives businesses the opportunity to work on a local project to benefit the community.

Jistcourt is working on a flats refurbishment for Valleys to Coast in Cefn Glas and wanted to do some extra benefits for Llangewydd Junior School.
