MAESTEG Celtic were comfortabl­e winners at Cefn Saeson after putting Cimla in to bat.

The home side were soon 9-4 and 29-5 and but for a superb 66 by captain Stuart Hornby with seven fours, it would have been a rout. No other batsman managed double figures and Cimla were all out for 132 in the final over. Celtic’s bowling was: Chris Hicks 6-4-4-1, Matthew Davies 10-3-153, Rhodri Thomas 10-131-1, Luke Wilson 9-023-1, Morgan Griffiths 10-3-27-3 and 12-year-old Louis Cirotto 5-0-13-0.

Nick Pole was run out for 17 and Ian Herbert retired hurt on 13 but James Richards scored 38 not out and Gareth Hopkins hammered eight fours in his 46 and Celtic got the runs for the loss of two wickets.

Celtic have a top-ofthe-table game against Morriston at Garth Park on Saturday. MAESTEG were inserted by Felinfoel but batted well to post 210 all out with three balls remaining of their 50 overs. Opener Andrew King cracked 14 fours in a regal 85 and fellow opener Kurt Vincent made 21. Others chipped in and Ewan Lambert got 38.

The Felinfoel bowling was: Craig Richards 9-227-2, Anthony Matthias 10-2-38-1, Julian Griffiths 6.3-0-37-2, Jonathan Cheal 10-0-48-0, Cieron Thomas 10-3-30-3 and Rhys Harries 4-0-21-2.

Former Cavalier Julian Griffiths threatened with nine boundaries in a hard hitting 70 and Kristopher Jones got 20 but Maesteg turned the screw and got them all out for 153 in 42.1 overs.

Maesteg’s bowling was: Michael Bailey 10-2-38-4, Callum Walters 7-0-27-0, Martin Hood 10-4-16-1, Thomas Harding 2-0-22-0, Martin Wilkshire 7.1-217-3 and Ewan Lambert 6-0-22-1.
