IT WAS the final night of the season last Friday at Blaengarw Rugby where the singles and presentati­ons were held.

In the first round of the singles, Nick Winn hit a 115 finish in a 15-dart leg but then lost out to John Collins in the second who hit a 180 another youngster who hit a 180 was the Social’s Bleddyn Lyons who roared in to the third round. He then hit a near “purrfect” 16 darter but succumbed to Vetz marksman Lee Haines. In the quarter-finals, home “kid” Paul Williams beat fellow teenager Johnny Clayton of Nanty Rugby, Haines overcame Steve Dent of Garw Rugby, big favourite Mike Huntley of the Vetz hunted down Mark Lewis of Nanty Inn and Collins triumphed over Phil “Pooler” Jones of the Colliers. The first semi saw Haines beat Williams by closing out the second leg with a 17 darter. Then in the second, Collins finally got the better of Huntley in a see-saw three legged race which saw Huntley hit a 15-dart leg and Collins two 17dart legs. The final was another top class game with Haines drawing first blood by taking out 76 for the first leg. However, Collins

A fifth league win from six starts moved Aberkenfig on to 62 points, and they hold a 22-point advantage over closest challenger­s Tyn-y-Twr Badgers, who have a game in hand.

The only match to be staged in Division Five last week saw Cefn Cribwr gain a slender 69-66 away to Aberavon Liberal Club Don’ts.

drew level with double 16 in the second only for veteran Haines to take out 90 to once again go in front. But Collins then made it a final leg shoot out by “booming” in his 11th 180 of the season and hitting double 16. As in all four previous legs, both players then continued to hit three-figure scores in the fifth, but Collins proved the stronger by nailing double 10 to win his third league singles crown.

Thanks again to Nev and Heather for running another quality night of darts. As there is no Ogmore and Garw summer league this year the Inn will be holding a money in money out tournament on Friday nights during the summer, so if you darters find yourselves at a loose end on a Friday please feel free to turn up and feed the Lion.

The Jubilee Cup fives kicked off with League winners the Picton Z seeing off the Seahorse 2-0. Up next saw the Ivor Williams Challenge match between the winners of the Porthcawl and Kenfig Hill singles winners. Kenfig Hill champ Mark Grabham took on Porthcawl’s Joe Williams who stepped in a the previous years runner-up after champ Ash Richards couldn’t make it. In an entertaini­ng game laced with high scores Grabham ran out the 3-1 winner.

In the Champions of Champions final, the Seahorse’s Sean Fisher won his 1st singles title of the year with a 3-0 win over the Picton A’s Mark Lavers.

In a pulsating KO Fours final saw every player have at least one match winning double but it was veteran Haydon Thomas who sealed the victory for Pyle RFC B in a 2-1 win over the Seahorse.

Match of the night went to the Youth Under 25s final between Pyle RFC A’s Joel Pearcey and the Prince A’s Ian Mitchelmor­e. In a see-saw battle with superb high scores and every leg going with throw featuring a 180 from Mitchelmor­e in the deciding leg, it was Pearcey who pinned the winning double to win 3-2.

In the 301 double off Memorial Singles final, Sean Fisher claimed a second title with a 3-1 win over bitter rival Paul Green from Pyle RFC B with the match highlight a 108 out from Fisher in the 3rd leg.

In the main event be- tween Wayne Joseph and Billy Absalom of the Picton Z for the most prestigiou­s trophy the KO Singles saw incredible drama. Absalom raced into a 2-0 lead with a 15 and 19-dart leg. In the 3rd leg, Absalom missed a 105 out to win it 3-0 but Joseph stepped in. In the 4th leg a 180 from Joseph saw him set up an outshot to level at 2-2. In the decider Joseph hammered home as a dejected Absalom could only watch as Joseph captured his second KO Singles title.

FINALS NIGHT 2: THE league season concluded at the RAFA with the second of the Finals Nights.

The night kicked off with the Globe A’s Tony Deeks sealing a spot in the C League Charity Singles Final with a 2-0 win over Dave Williams of the Sandpiper. The Swan B’s Iwan Harris received a walkover after teammate Daniel Ward couldn’t make it.

In the Delegates Final, Steve Gillet of the Picton Z rolled back the years with a 3-0 win over the Prince A’s Andrew Harman.

In a tremendous Golden Oldies Over 55’s Final, the Prince A’s Mike Clark shook off the disappoint­ment of losing in the Over’s final several years back to claim the trophy over former winner Alwyn Rees of the Greenacre. With the game locked at 2-1, Clark missed 14 darts at a double to win 3-1 and must have thought it would never happen as Rees levelled at 2-2. But Clark kept his composure and took the title which eluded him previously.

In the KO Threes final, Pyle RFC B captured their third title with a 2-0 win over the Swan B before defending champions Pyle Legion A retained their KO Sixes crown with a 2-1 win over the Picton Z.

Next came the B League Charity Singles Final where Pyle RFC A’s Steve Pearcey looked to emulate son Joel’s title winning form from the previous week against the Prince C’s Stuart Davies.

Davies led 1-0 before Pearcey took the next 2 legs to lead 2-1. In the fourth leg, Pearcey missed a 120 out to win 3-1 before Davies pegged double 10 to force a decider. It was then Davies put in a superd 18 dart leg to win a title which has long eluded him.

In the Presidents Cup the Picton’s Steve Gillet and Darren Baker took the prize with a 2-1 win over Gary Williams and Andrew Harman of the Prince.

In the C League Charity Singles Final the Swan’s Iwan Harris kept calm and defeated the Globe A’s Tony Deeks 3-0 in a great showing from the youngster.

Finally, defending champion Paul Green of Pyle RFC B took on the Greenacres Mark Grabham in what was a scorching match. Green led 1-0 after a 19 darter before a 17 darter from Grabham levelled it. Green again led at 2-1 before Grabham forced a decider. In the last leg a 180 from Grabham sent him on his way to a victory to once again be A League Champ.
