THE Five Bells look to have one hand on the Division Two title after victory in their clash at the top of league against nearest rivals the GWR A.

It was the Railwaymen who took an early lead taking the threes 2-0. The Bells fought back to take all the pairs to lead 3-2 going into the singles.

Roy Mills took the opening singles for the Canteen to level the scores. Wins for Ben Smith, John Grant, Adam Lloyd and a 100 out for Kris Russell put the away side in control and 7-3 up. Clive Hughes pulled one back for the home side with Dai Smith taking the final leg for the Bellmen for an 8-4 victory putting them well in front of the chasing pack with two games to go.

With the Bells looking to have secured top spot, the race for second is still wide open with just six points separating three sides. Despite their defeat the GWR A remain in second, four points ahead of the White Horse who failed to close the gap as they were soundly beaten by the Wicked Lady A 9-3.

Gavin Buffton hit a 120 out in a 15-dart leg for the Wicked lads.

The GWR B are still in the hunt, just two points behind the Horse as they threw away a 6-2 lead to draw 6-6 away to the Coach Drivers.

In Division One the game of the night was at the Social as they took on second placed Red Drag- on. The home side opened up an early 4-1 lead as they had the better of the opening exchanges.

The Dragon brought things all square with Steve Gillett, Wayne Joseph and a 180 from Eifion Lloyd claimed victories in the opening three singles. A 180 from John Picton in his win put the Social back in front only for Steffan Coombes to level the game as he took the next for the Dragon. Chris Packman and Nick Winn ensured victory went to the Social as they claimed the final two legs for a 7-5 scoreline in favour of the Social.

With the Dragon losing the Wicked Lady B looked to extend their lead at the top as they played the Caeffatri. The early games saw the Lady boys open up a 5-0 lead.

Frank Ravenscrof­t and Ken Richards pulled two back for the home side as they claimed the opening two singles. Wins for Darren Rees and Ray Johnson put the Wicked 7-2 in front with Gerwyn Harris taking another leg for the Caeffatri.

Tony Doyle and Tim Jones took the final two legs for the away side as the Wicked lads ran out 9-3 victors to open up a 12-point lead.

Elsewhere in the league a 180 from Mathew Martin helped the Colliers come from 6-4 down to draw against the Jolliers.

Some poor finishing from the BUSC B put them in trouble as they trailed 5-2 at one point in their game against the Cabo but they turned things around as they took five legs on Aberavon Liberal Club Do’s, 79-53, at the Caepant Field with skip Jimmy Hoskins doing the business.

His 25-5 rink success set up a fourth league win from six starts for Bridgend, who in the process took possession of third spot.

On the other side of the River Ogmore, there was also a success for Bridgend Municipal, who beat Tyn-y-Twr 74-70.

This represente­d only a second league win of the season for the Newbridge Fields team, who were led home by skip Mal Jones via a 26-6 rink victory.

However, next to bottom Maesteg lost 77-60 at Port Talbot Municipal.

But there’s no stopping Aberkenfig in Division Four with the league leaders sweeping to a crushing 94-48 home win over Bryncoch.

Top rink status in this latest success went to skip Gerald Phillips, who produced a 26-3 winning card. the trot to win 7-5.

The final game saw the Cabo Kings take some valuable points in their effort to avoid the drop as they beat the BUSC A 10-2. Lyn Cook taking the only singles leg for dads army.
