NATHAN Alexander got a great 45 points last Saturday to win in a canter a June Stableford tournament at Coed-y-Mwstwr.

Nathan, the son of bighitting rugby coach Paul, earlier topped the leaderboar­d during day one of the Club Championsh­ip.

This time around he matched par eight times off a 21 handicap to finish four points ahead of Lionel Williams (two on hole 17 and birdie on the ninth).

Third-placed Michael Green made a poor start – getting bogeys on the two opening holes – only to snap back and record two birdies and 14 pars on a 40-point card.

Senior Captain David B Ford-Williams entered the Sam Bevan snug with 39 points while 11 other players went under the card.

On the 38-point mark came Lee Griffiths, Charles Caddy, Ross Haskins, Andrew Goss and steady Eddie D Taylor while a further point back came Simon McCutcheon, Anthony Main, Kirk Norris, Michael Jacques, Andy Hill and Gareth Jones.

Meanwhile, Brian Austin went through the gears last week in the Senior Stableford, motoring to victory on 43 points.

A birdie on the home hole crowned a fine round from the 22-handicappe­r that also included seven pars.

In a tournament that saw former top rugby referee Lyndon Young make a Senior debut and win the raffle, Clive E Tremlett was second on 41 points (two on the penultimat­e hole).

Third-placed Byron Cox matched par 10 times in getting 39 points and Gerald Bush also got 10 pars in scoring 37 points.

Jimmy Blackball once more potted balls from everywhere in 37 points, including a two on the second, while 35 also came from Glyn Jackman, Jonny McEachen and steady Eddie D Taylor.

Joker-in-the-pack Tony Poole made a rare top10 appearance with 34 points, and on the same mark came twinkling exfootball­er Gerald Howe, Irish star Philip Harrington and mad hatter Colin Edwards.

The opening Senior Section Away Day of the summer took members to Raglan Park with Peter Beynon sweeping to victory with a toasty 39 Stableford points.

Golfing aficionado Michael Parker got par 36 points with Byron Cox a further point back.

Peter Ashman threw a dart at the 14th flag to claim Nearest the Pin, and best second shot into the 15th came from Byron Cox.

And twos were recorded by Senior Captain David B Ford-Williams, Peter Ashman and John Cox.

Meanwhile, next Tuesday is Coed-y-Mwstwr Senior Open Day, and a few afternoon tees remain on offer.

On the Ladies scene at Bryn Road, Rebecca Roberts pulled off a fourth win in seven starts since making an emotional return.

Her latest success arrived last Saturday when winning a Stableford event with par 36 points (birdies on holes two and 10 along with five pars).

Four pars helped Jackie Summerton card 34 points, and on the same mark came recent winner Nicola Hopkins, Christine Caddy and Janet Roberts.
