Survey will help to improve patient care

-

I AM writing to let your readers know that the results of the second Wales Cancer Patient Experience Survey have been published.

It was carried out by Macmillan Wales and the Welsh Government in partnership, and more than 6,700 people completed the survey. I would like to say a huge thank-you to all of them.

The results showed many positives, including that 93% of people surveyed rated their cancer care positively. It also showed that having access to a clinical nurse specialist gave people a more positive experience of cancer care on 73 of the survey’s 74 questions.

However, there were areas for improvement, including ensuring people had written information that was easy to understand and in the right format for them. The results showed fewer than half of people surveyed (48%) were given information about financial help and fewer than one in five (18%) were given a written care plan.

Macmillan Wales will use the results to share what’s working well, campaign for improvements where needed and to develop our services to support people with cancer.

Readers can find the report for Wales and their health boards on the Welsh Government website.
