Busy lives ‘leading to less time for talking’

-

PARENTS in Wales spend just 42 minutes a day talking to their children, according to new research.

The findings emerged in a study of kids aged four to 16, show that despite spending more than eight hours a day together, families in Wales chat for less than 10% of that time.

The survey of 2,000 across the country found conversations between parents and their children will last just eight minutes before it’s time for school.

Around eight out of 10 parents said they wish they could spend more time with their children than they currently do.

A spokesman for Fruittella, which commissioned the research, said: “We lead busy lives, but it’s important that we find the time to chat with our kids about everyday things.

“We carried out this research to encourage parents to take two extra minutes each day to sit down with their children and chat about all the great stuff that they do that we don’t always hear about.”
