JEREMY Lawlor failed to get runs, as Glamorgan Seconds lost by three wickets to Middlesex in the Second XI Championsh­ip at Merchant Taylors, writes Tony Poole.

The Bridgend Town attached Glamorgan player for the season failed to reach double figures in either innings, and is in need of a big score in order to rebuild confidence.

The Welsh county were put in to bat and made 213 with Aussie wicket-keeper Thomas Cullen getting 69, Lukas Carey 39 and captain Neil Brand 30.

Middlesex were then ousted for 195, as Carey delivered 7-2-12-3, Devon import Kazimir Kszymanski 11-3-25-3 and Lawlor 5-0-23-0.

Second time around Glammy posted 165 - Owen Morgan leading the way with 48 while Connor Brown (Cardiff) hit 34 and Jack Murphy ( Ammanford) 28.

Set 184 to win, Middlesex rallied from 121-4 to get 185-7 with Brown sending down 9-0-45-3, and Carey 8-0-39-2.

Meanwhile, Wales Minor Counties opened a Unicorns Championsh­ip fixture on Sunday with Cheshire at the Alderley Edge club near Altrincham.

The side contained three local-born players in Sam Pearce (Bridgend Town), Oliver Pike (Penarth) and Steffan Roberts (Neath).

Captain Greg Holmes (Cardiff) won the toss, and gave Cheshire first use of the wicket.

Having been 177-4, they were bowled out for 313 with Pike delivering 23.52-91-4, Richie Edwards (Port Talbot Town) 20-468-3 and Pearce 20-3-561.

And at stumps on day one, Wales were 58-1 off 20 overs – Irish man Gareth Ansell the man to go for 18 – with Joe Voke (Newport) unbeaten on 29 and debutant nightwatch­man Tom Bevan of Millfield School undefeated on four.
