BRYN Williams got a key two on the seventh hole to win the Captain’s Putter last Saturday at Royal Porthcawl with 36 Stableford points.

He also entered five pars on a winning card to lift the tournament by a point from David Mullins, who was playing off an away handicap.

A two on the 14th hole allied to further birdies on the fifth, sixth and eighth greens allowed him to make up ground after recording no-return on the third.

Richard J Walters was another to get a two on hole seven to secure third spot with 33 points.

Former Swansea and Wales full-back Mark Wyatt got a two on the fourth green, followed it with another birdie on the next hole and also matched par on six occasions.

Young William Evans got 12 pars on a 32-point card, and the score was matched by Richard Disley on the back of birdies on the fifth and 17th holes.

Five players then finished with 31 points – Lewis Mainwaring (two on hole 11 and two further birdies), Robert Richards (two birdies), Andy Booth (two birdies), Rhodri Lewis and Harvey Caesar.

Meanwhile, Heather Atkin won the Mascot Cup last week at Royal Porthcawl on the back of a -1 round.

Nine pars led to her having a shot in hand over Geraldine Turner while three players signed for -5 – Geraldine Judd, Emer Disley (birdies on holes 15 and 17) and Jane David (two on hole four and birdie on 17). fixture against the seniors of Dinas Powys Golf Club. The conditions were pleasant and both teams appreciate­d the excellent condition of both the fnairways and the greens. The home side maintained their recent good form with a thumping six and a half to one and a half victory. On the Senior scene, there was no gain without pain last week for retired dentist Adrian Daniel, who won the fifth round of the Harold Gould competitio­n.

The former Bridgend Town cricket star filled his card with a birdie on the fourth and 10 pars, but there was pain associated with no-returns on holes nine and 15.

Runner-up Shaun Barker shot four pars on a 33-point card to finish one shot in front of both Viv Sheppard and Neil Roedemer.

Former Bridgend back row star Colin Standing entered the clubhouse with 31 points (birdie on hole 15), and on the same level came C M Feeley and Russell Aston.
