HUNDREDS TURN OUT FOR CARNIVAL

- ABBY BOLTER abby.bolter@walesonline.co.uk

FROM the Blues Brothers to 1920s flapper girls and even a couple of Muppets, this year’s Porthcawl Buckaneers Carnival had it all.

The grand parade of floats and walkers made its way along the route from Newton Primary, much to the delight of hundreds of people who had gathered along the route.

The theme this year was musicals, with money being raised for local good causes as always.

Floats came from the following organisations:

Y Centre Porthcawl: Bugsy Malone

Happy Valley Wigfach: Yellow Brick Road

Blue Water Club: Mary Poppins

Ancient Briton: Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Cardiff Blues: Blues Brothers

Porthcawl Rotary: My Fair Lady

Porthcawl RFC juniors – School of Ruck

Porthcawl Park Runners – Rock of Ages

Age UK Porthcawl – Pyjama Party

Porthcawl Museum – Mack and Mabel.

Ahead of the parade, Porthcawl Mayor Lorrie Desmond-Williams, wrote on the Buckaneers website: “With changing times within our community it is reassuring to know that some things don’t change and the carnival being a well-established tradition will continue for another year.

“The community comes together and celebrates a wonderful day out for everyone and it’s this sense of community that creates everlasting memories.

“Memories can’t be bought or sold and stay with us forever.”
