Laleston gardening club: On Saturday 15th July, 51 members and friends enjoyed a coach trip to Abbey Cwm Hir Hall & Gardens situated just outside of Llandrindod Wells. Although there was persistent rain on departure, during the two and a half hour journey the weather improved and members were blessed with a fine day. Abbey Cwm Hir Hall was bought by Paul & Victoria Humpherston in 1997 and they spent 10 years restoring the Victorian Gothic Revival building to its present day splendour.

Paul and two friends acted as guides on the tour of the 52 rooms, all of which were tastefully and lavishly decorated. Lunch followed in a local village hall and the afternoon was spent wandering around the 12 acres of gardens and grounds of Abbey Cwm Hir, which included the grave of Llewellyn, the Last Prince of Wales. The general consensus was that it was one of the most interesting trips the club has undertaken.

On the return journey Margaret Worgan was thanked for her usual splendid organisational skills.

Overgrown Footpaths: It is good news to note that both footpaths leading from Heol y Bardd to Broadlands Estate have been cut back somewhat after many phone calls to BCBC from residents. However, it is sad to note that some local councillors have no idea where Heol y Bardd is located!

Laleston Gardening Club: Visitors to Laleston Gardening Club will notice that the crazy paved patio area at the front of Cliff Cottage has been completely relaid and now incorporates 2 ramps to aid wheelchair access, making this a pleasant sitting area, accessible to all.

A project was developed to improve the patio and the club was fortunate to be allocated grant funding towards the cost by the local Suncredit Solar Farm, the balance coming from the club’s fund raising activities. The grant was administered by Bavo and we are grateful for their consideration of our application.
