LIGHT drizzle failed to deter Kyle Harman who took a White Box Stableford tournament at Southerndo­wn with 38 points.

A two on the seventh hole along with further birdies on holes three, six, eight and 13 took him clear of a 44-strong field and he also carded 11 pars and two bogeys.

Runner-up Gareth Standing handed in a 37-point card containing a Tutu (twos on holes five and 10) along with further birdies on the sixth and 13th greens and 10 pars.

On the same mark was Simon Jenkins (11 pars) while three players matched par – Paul Thomas, George Lee and Kieran Harman (eagle on hole six together with birdies on the third, ninth and 13th holes).

Jodey Hughes got a two on hole 10 in a 35-point return, and Jason Evans matched the score.

In a Hanner Ffordd competitio­n last week, victory on 37 Stableford points went to CE Morris.

Two points in arrears came Kenneth Davies, who edged out GW Jones and Ian Spence on countback for second place.

Further down the scoreboard came S Hodson (34), B Dudley (32) and Stephen Lewis (31).

A Ladies Stableford competitio­n went to Helen Loo who shot 38 points to win by a point over Helen Evans.

Diana Chinn was third with par 36, and on the same level was Alaitz Zubikarai who shot three birdies.

Maggie Townrow was fifth on 35 points and a further point back came three players – Jenny Jones, Carys Sheard and Paula Wilson. tracted a field of 36 and, with good run on the fairways, some excellent scores were posted. With three players carding 38 points, count-backs were necessary to place Handicap and Competitio­n Secretary, Fred Furby, third and Phil Banks second. With a fine 40 points, however, the victory was claimed by Section Secretary, Norman Lloyd. Furby made swift with his abacus and cropped two shots off Lloyd’s handicap.

Maesteg Juniors gained a sparkling 2-1 victory at Pennard, but the Halletts team lost their final match of the season, going down 3-1 at Cilsanws.

On the Ladies scene at the Llynfi Valley course, Pam Jones took the Rose Bowl tournament with a nett score of 73.

Ann Parry, making a seasonal reappearan­ce, shot 76 to finish second while top golf writer CeriAnn Morgan fired 78 to take third-place honours.
