CHAMPIONSHIP

-

MISTY conditions led to the South Wales Boys Strokeplay Championship at Carmarthen being abandoned, writes Tony Poole.

After just seven holes of the final between Aled Greville (Ashburnham) and Harrison Frazer (Pennard) low cloud engulfed the golf course.

And when the misty conditions persisted past the deadline time, it was decided that the trophy would be shared.

During the Strokeplay stage of the tournament, Greville topped the leaderboard with rounds of 70 and 68 for 138.

Ben Davies (Southerndown) was fifth (74, 70 = 144) while Ronan Oliver (Pyle & Kenfig) (77, 74 = 148) was also in the top16 and qualified for the Matchplay stage.

Just the wrong side of the qualifying line were Ioan Consitt (Pyle & Kenfig) 149, Jack Wiggins (Southerndown) 152, Myles Protheroe (Maesteg) 155 and Morgan Grace (Southerndown) 157.

In the round of 16 players, Ben Davies defeated Reuben Bather of the Maesdu club in Llandudno on the first extra hole.

But Ronan Oliver bowed out at this stage, going down 3 & 1 to Harrison Duckett (Trefloyne).

In the last-eight stage, Davies then faced Duckett – and suffered a 5 & 3 defeat.

But with the Rolex Senior Championship teeing off at the club tomorrow, this was the only action out on the golf course last week.
