Playschool: On the last day of term the children had a super tea party and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

St Brides School: The children going on to “big school” had a moving service followed by lots of fun and some tears.

Women’s Institute: A coffee morning held at the home of member Rhiannon in Ogmore was well attended on a dry sunny day.

Memories: It is nearly 20 years since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and at the time of great mourning a memorial book was placed in St Bridget’s Church for parishione­rs to write their feelings and appreciati­on of her life and work.

National Open Gardens Scheme: Knightsbri­dge House in Llantwit Major has a wonderful Japanese garden complete with water features, pagoda and koi carp pond and will be open to the public from 11am-5pm this Sunday, August 6.

Mothers Union: St Brides Major branch members will be having a strawberry cream tea in All Saints Church at 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 8.

Royal Mint: If you are looking for somewhere to visit during the summer holidays why not go along to Llantrisan­t to see how the coins of the UK are made.

Guided tours are available as well as an exhibition with many facts and items to see.

Community Council: At the recent meeting various issues were discussed, including donations to local groups, quotes for replacemen­t signs for the commemorat­ive trees and planning applicatio­ns.

The next meeting is on September 11 at 7pm in All Saints, Southerndo­wn. All welcome. Resurfacin­g: The Vale of Glamorgan have been carrying out highway maintenanc­e in our area thanks to additional monies being available.

There might be some more traffic disruption to come but it is worth it to have a good road surface ready for the next winter.
