James makes it a hat trick with parkrun win

TRISTYN James triumphed for a third time in the Bridgend Junior 2k Parkrun last Sunday in Newbridge Fields.

In a first Bridgend run since last September, a winning time of 7 minutes 47 seconds was a mere three seconds outside his best.

However, runner-up Ioan James did post a personal best, clipping two seconds off his previous best to finish in 7:52.

Third-placed AnnaRose Merchant clocked 8:24 to finish ahead of Bridgend colleagues Joshua Morgan 8:29 and Mia Allen 8:40.

The other top-10 places were filled by Ioan Phillips 8:51, Leroy Griffiths (Rhondda) 8:59, Abigail Morgan 9:12, Maya Bilal 9:29 and Jessica Crawley (Bridgend) 9:32.

Sub-10 minute times also came from Euan Jenkins 9:35, Jude Jenkins 9:40, first-time competitor Reggie Hyde-Jones 9:42, Katie Blower 9:44 and Finley Taylor 9:56.

Other splendid efforts came from Lewis Crawley 10:01 along with young girls Grace Taylor (Bridgend) pb 10:06, Isobel Macintyre (Pencoed Panthers) 10:42, Mali Paige Roberts pb 11:09 and Olivia Butler 11:57.

Nine other personal bests were registered and went against the names of Grace Griffiths (Rhondda), Jack Woodhouse, Megan Harvey, Rhys Evans, Lloyd Dando, Noah Hardwicke, Lili Howard, Halle Scarlett Goss and Serian Penketh.

SSAFA 5K SERIES

IN the third and final Ssafa 5K Series event of the season in the capital city’s Bute Park, Donovan Williams-Hale (Bridgend) was 30th in a time of 17 minutes 43 seconds.

The event finished alongside Blackweir Tavern, and was won by James Hunt (Cardiff) in a superb time of 15:20 from Abed Teweldebrh­an (Newport Harriers) 15:24.

Other decent times from local competitor­s came from Sean Lewis (Brackla Harriers) 17:54, Rhys Hardman 18:59 and Rob Hunt (both Bridgend) 19:04.

STARTRACK 2017

WELSH Athletics are staging Startrack 2017 at the base of Bridgend Ath- letics Club in Newbridge Fields.

The event is being held from August 22 – 24 with run, jump and throw categories.

Prices are £15 per day or £38 for all three days, and it’s a great way to keep on training throughout the summer months.

All Bridgend members can attend for a discounted price of £32 for the three days.
