Exciting finale to the season

BRIDGEND & DISTRICT DARTS LEAGUE

THE league finally came to end this week as the last 16 players left met at the GWR to contest for the league singles title.

The earlier rounds saw the following players progress to play in the final,

A 109 out from Noyle Burt saw him through along with Chris Hillman, Darren Rees and Dai Smith from the Cabo venue. A 15 dart leg from Alwyn Collins and a 170 out for Gerwyn Harris put them into the finals with Ray Morris and Dan Brian taking the other spots at the GWR. At the BUSC, A 180 in a 15 dart leg from Ray Johnson was the high light as he booked his place along with Chris Packman, Alan Payne and Phil John. The final four spots came from the Social venue as Andrew Hermoile, Gavin Buffton, John Pritchard and Russell Wilkscame through to make up the final.

In the final, the first 180 of the night went to Russell Wilks as he came through his first round match beating Darren Rees 2-1. Other first round results saw Gavin Buffton beat Phil John 2-0, Ray Morris 2 Alan Payne 1, Alwyn Collins 2 Andrew Hermoile 1, Chris Packman 2 Noyle Burt 0 and Ray Johnson 2 Gerwyn Harris 1. The other quarter-final places went to Dai Smith and Chris Hillman.

A 12 dart leg from Ray Johnson was the highlight of the quarter-finals as he found himself on for a possible nine darter after hitting two consecutive 180s.

The first semi-final saw Gavin Buffton beat Chris Hillman 2-0 while an 18 dart leg from Russell Wilks and a 17 dart leg from Ray Johnson saw the other semi-final go to a sudden death decider which went to Ray.

Another 17 dart leg from Ray saw him take the opening leg in the final only for Gavin to level things up. 18 and 19 dart legs from Ray in the third and fourth legs meant he ran out victorious taking the league singles title 3-1.

The AGM will be on August 8 at the BUSC. All teams wishing to enter the winter league 2017/18 please attend this meeting to get fixture lists drawn up. We will probably revert to two leagues because of the number of teams who have shown an interest in joining the league.
