Kenfig Hill close the gap on league leaders

-

DIVISION Two leaders Prince of Wales Court Hawks last week had their wings clipped by in-form Kenfig Hill, going down 74-64 at Penylan Avenue, writes Tony Poole.

It moved Kenfig Hill, who once more have proved slow starters, to within seven points of the Porthcawl side with both clubs having completed 10 out of 14 league fixtures. And Kenfig Hill won on three rinks with skip Ivor Cogbill leading them home on the back of a 22-10 success.

Maesteg Celtic en- dured a mixed week during two matches at Garth Park – defeating Aberavon 59-52 only to lose the derby clash with Caerau Welfare, 82-62.

An 18-6 winning card from skip David John got Celtic over the finishing line against Aberavon.

But it was Caerau Welfare skip Keith Llewellyn, who triumphed 24-14, who played the trump card to defeat Celtic and keep the Riverboaters in with an outside chance of promotion.

In Division Three, Bridgend Municipal moved into a mid-table slot on the strength of a 17-point haul from two matches last week.

The Newbridge Fields side gained a whitewash victory over visiting Tata Steel, winning 79-53, but lost 65-53 against Tyn-yTwr in Baglan.

Maesteg swept to a 6358 home win over Port Talbot Municipal, but Caerau Athletic slid into relegation danger after losing 67-54 at Port Talbot Ynys.

Though not in league action last week, Aberkenfig remain top of Division Four but BP Llandarcy Tankers are just three points back and have a game in hand.

In Division Five top club Cefn Cribwr lost the top-of-the-table clash at Briton Ferry Town, going down to a heavy 75-49 defeat and only managed to salvage one rink win.

That’s left the Cae Gof club just one point in front of Briton Ferry Town with both clubs having played 10 of 14 games on their fixture cards.

It was a mixed week for Pencoed, who lost 75-62 at Aberavon Liberal Club Don’ts, but pulled off a 72-53 victory at BP Llandarcy Oilers. Skip Rob Sherrard triumphed 20-9 in the win over the Oilmen, as Pencoed kept alive promotion hopes during their first season on the Port Talbot circuit. RESULTS
