Nuffield supports youth rugby in Penarth
NUFFIELD Health Cardiff & Vale Hospitals is sponsoring Penarth Mini and Junior Rugby Football Club for a second season. Founded in 1982, the mini and junior teams were formed nearly 100 years after Penarth RFC, nicknamed the Seasiders, was established.
The home ground of the team is Penarth athletic field, an established site which has a pavilion, changing rooms and grandstand. It is located in a residential area near central Penarth, originally bequeathed by the Earl of Plymouth.
The site accommodates one senior and four junior rugby union pitches. The mini and junior section have approximately 200 players registered and while the teams of all age groups are always looking for new recruits, places are limited.
Hospitals director, Simon Rogers, from Nuffield Health Cardiff & Vale Hospitals said: “As a not-for-profit organisation, Nuffield Health’s charitable purpose is to promote health and wellbeing. In line with this, we are delighted to continue working with Penarth Mini and Junior RFC – a great community club, local to the Vale hospital, which caters for children to play sport in a well-coached and managed environment.
“Along with a number of other youth sport projects, we are pleased to support youth rugby by funding playing kit for Penarth RFC.”
Chairman of Penarth RFC mini and junior section, David Shewring, commented: “Our junior teams are doing really well and are very successful.
“We are very grateful to Nuffield Health for sponsoring our kit and for helping to facilitate the enjoyment and participation in rugby for all age groups from under six to seniors.”
