Stadium trek raises £11,000
THEY’VE got more than their fair share of blisters between them but this group of fundraisers wouldn’t have it any other way.
By taking part in the Stadium2Stadium endurance event – which saw them pound more than 70 miles of pavements between Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli and Rodney Parade in Newport non-stop – they’ve raised more than £11,000 to help people fighting a cruel disease.
The money raised by the Bridgend fundraisers will go to the South Wales branches of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Through day and night, the group made their way across South Wales via the Liberty Stadium in Swansea and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
It’s not the first time that the team has taken on such a challenge. This was their fourth fundraiser, having cycled from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, scaled the national five peaks and kayaked across the three largest lakes in the UK in previous years.
Justin Hostettler-Davies, who orgainsed the event, said: “The South Wales Branch of MNDA has completed a series of challenges over the years but this year we wanted to do something here in Wales and I thought that this challenge would be perfect.
“The team signed up to the challenge back in February and since then we’ve all been trying to walk as much as possible.
“Everyone is obviously battered and bruised from the event, but through some incredible teamwork and true grit and determination we managed to pull off a remarkable feat.”
Justin and the team had aimed to raise around £5,000, but the current fundraising total is £11,600.
The MNDA funds research into motor neurone disease and provides support to those who have had a diagnosis.
Motor neurone disease describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves in the brain and spinal cord that tell the muscles what to do.
