Schoolboy bags top prize with his drawing of castle
A YOUNG artist’s picture of Coity Castle is to be seen by thousands of shoppers after he won a bag design competition run by Tesco in Bridgend.
Will Evans, who is five, of St Robert’s Catholic Primary School Aberkenfig, also won £500 for his school and a £25 gift card for himself.
More than 500 children entered the competition to draw a picture showing what they love about Bridgend.
His winning poster has been transferred on to thousands of limited-edition hessian bags which are being given away for free in store.
The competition was organised by the Tesco superstore on Brewery Lane as part of its com- mitment to encourage community involvement.
Tesco Bridgend store manager Catherine Hill said: “We got a great response to our I Love Bridgend competition and we really loved Will’s picture of Coity Castle, especially as he’s only five.
“The new bags look fantastic and we are sure they will be well received by our customers.”
St Robert’s Catholic Primary School’s headteacher Carmen Beveridge added “The pupils loved researching the local area and then draw- ing what they love about Bridgend.
“The staff and pupils can’t wait to see Will’s design on the Tesco bags being used throughout the borough.
“Many thanks to Tesco for the prize of £500 – it is greatly appre-ciated.”
