Garw Valley Heritage: On Saturday, September 2, in connection with Cadw’s Open Doors project, there will be a guided walk around Blaengarw, the onetime home of Daniel James, writer of the hymn, Calon Lan.

This will take place from 10.30am-2pm with those interested meeting at the groundsman’s hut in Parc Calon Lan, Blaengarw.

Also as part of the Cadw Open Doors Project, the Garw Valley Heritage Society will be holding an exhibition of Garw Life in the vestry of Tabernacle Chapel, Pontycymer on Saturday, September 9.

Pen-Y-Fan Charity Walk: The programme has just been announced for Pontycymer Rugby Club’s charity walk up Pen-Y-Fan, on Sunday September 3, during which club members, players, and supporters are looking to conquer the 886 meter trip to the summit of the highest peak in southern Britain.

All proceeds from this event will go to Nicky Harris who suffered a life changing brachial plexus injury playing for Pontycymer last October.

Everyone is welcome to take part and sponsor forms are available from behind the bar of the club house in Oxford Street.

Itinerary for Sunday, September 3:

8am – Bus leaves Pontycymer R.F.C.

9.30am – Walk up PenY-Fan starts.

Bus will depart when the last person returns to base camp and will then return to Pontycymer Rugby Club for refreshmen­ts and live entertainm­ent from Zac Connors.

Blaengarw Cricket Club: This Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday, August 26, Blaengarw will travel to the coast to face Sully Spartans in the final game of the 2017 season.

Bridgend & District Quiz League: Bridgend & District Quiz League is commencing its 45th season on September 4 at Tondu Railway Club.

The evening begins at 8pm with team registrati­on and a fun quiz which is open to all.

In addition to this, there will be a buffet provided. Quizzes are played on Monday nights at home and away venues, with breaks for Christmas and New Year.

Community Path News: Apparently Sustrans who run many of the cycle routes in the UK are doing a feasibilit­y study on the Community Path

Informatio­n kindly supplied by GV railway and Coun Roz Stirman. Garw Under 18s: The date for the FAW youth cup has been confirmed as Sunday, September 3, when the newly formed Garw Youth side will play Cardiff Academical­s Youth at Blandy Park.

Garw Youth are always on the lookout for new players, between 16-18 years of age.

Training is 6.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday at Blandy Park, Pontycymer and all are welcome to come along.

Pontycymer RFC: Recently the draw was made for round one of this season’s WRU Swalec Bowl Competitio­n in which Pontycymer have been drawn against local rivals Bryncethin RFC.

This game will take place at Lawrence Park, Pontycymer on Saturday September 16.

A quick reminder that on Sunday, September 3, players, members, and supporters of Pontycymer Rugby Club will be walking up Pen-Y-Fan to raise funds for Nicky Harris who suffered a life changing injury in a match against Pyle last October.

Boxing Club: Nantymoel Armature Boxing Club every Monday and Wednesday for a Ladies Boxfit, from 6pm-7pm – £4 each. Club is on Bethania Row, Ogmore Vale (entrance is at the back on High Street opposite the Non-Pol Club).

Ogmore Vale Community Tennis Club: We have two hard courts from which we will be playing social tennis every Tuesday, from 6pm-8pm and Sundays, from 10amnoon throughout the summer.

Social membership for adults is £25, seniors and juniors £15 for the year – this will give you full access to the club at any time. Entry to tournament­s is £5.

Coffee Morning: Christchur­ch Chapel Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale hold a coffee morning on Thursday, August 31.

As well as coffee, there will be a cake stall, book stall, china and clothes stalls and not forgetting a raffle etc.

Blackmill Over 50s: Blackmill Over 50s meet at the local Community Centre on Wednesdays at 7pm. New members always welcome.

Nantymoel Knitters: We meet twice a week at Dinam Close every Tuesday and Friday from 10am-12noon.

Duck Race: The duck race is on Sunday, September 24. Starting at the Wyndham Lane Bridge at 10.30am and finishing at the Ogmore Vale fish shop bridge.

Presentaio­n of the winning duck to take place at the Non-Pol at 12.30pm.

Ducks are now on sale at £2 each with all monies going to local charities. Ducks can be bought from Ann Collins, Lorraine Nutt, Stephanie Cook, Margaret Lloyd and the Non-Pol Club.

All welcome for a family fun day.

There will be a meeting at the Non-Pol club on Monday, September 4 at 7pm regarding this day.
