THE new Mayor of Bridgend County Borough has announced the three main charities that she will be supporting during her year in office.

Coun Pam Davies has chosen to raise funds for Bridgend Youth Theatre, Alzheimer’s Society Bridgend and Breast Cancer Care at Princess of Wales Hospital.

She said: “These are three causes that I am passionate about, so I’m very pleased to be supporting these locally-based charities over the next year.”

Coun Davies received the mayoral chains following the election and has very much enjoyed meeting local people at many varied engagements since becoming a member of the “chain gang”.

She said: “It’s an honour for me to become mayor and represent the county borough. I’m excited about carrying out my duties and have been touched by the warmth that has been shown to me and my husband at the events we have already attended.

“I am extremely proud of our area and I will endeavour to promote Bridgend County Borough and all of its qualities to everyone I meet at mayoral events.”

As well as being mayor, Coun Davies is also the ward member for Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr, which encompasses Broadlands.

She aims to write a book about her mayoral year, which will also look back on the 22 years she spent working for the Welsh Ambulance Service.

If you would like to invite the new mayor to any events or celebrations that you are organising during the next year, please call the mayor’s office at Bridgend County Borough Council on 01656 643250 or email mayor@ bridgend.gov.uk
