Defeat confirms Tondu relegation

Tondu invited the Stags to bat and with former Glamorgan opening batsman Gareth Rees making 61 and Matthew Thompson 54, they got 234-6.

David Matthews was the most successful Tondu bowler with 10-0-29-2 and there was a wicket apiece for Bryan Thomas (9-0-26-1), Elliot Rees (100-61-1) and Jon Bussey (10-0-41-1).

Stumper Owen Davies – fresh from an unbeaten 97 the previous week during a seven-wicket win at Miskin Manor – opened the batting. He responded with a top score of 52 before getting stumped, but other than that there was little to write home about.

Former Swansea and Mumbles all-rounder Rhodri Evans took out the lower order in 10-3-31-4 and was ably supported by Rees with 1.4-0-10-2.

Tondu wind up a disappoint­ing season on Saturday at home to Swansea with the second relegation spot, involving Ynystawe, Miskin Manor and Swansea still to be decided.

Aaron and Joseph Davies – the sons of deadly former Glamorgan pace man Andrew – took senior bows for Vale Seconds during a thrilling one-run defeat at Monkswood in a SouthEast Wales League Division Three fixture.

Both youngsters have enjoyed fine campaigns with Wales U13 caps proving the high point.

Last weekend Vale CC chairman Gareth Andrews presented the pair with club caps ahead of the game with Monkswood. Both were also wicket-takers in the Monmouthsh­ire countrysid­e, mimicking proud father Andrew with Aaron returning 2-54 and Joseph 1-24.
