Garw sunk by the Seasiders

-

FOOTBALL

going through the motions, suddenly grew in stature.

And with the Blandy boys expecting to just turn up and win, a potent mix was poured into the Lock’s Lane meltingpot.

Every player who pulled on the Porthcawl shirt gave it their best shot – and a little more for luck.

The front three of Morgan Thomas, Andrew Fisher and Jorge Crofts ran great angles to confuse Garw from the outset.

In goal Brad Robinson was a colossus while Joe Downes .put in so many great tackles it was difficult to keep track of them.

Evergreen performer Tom Warren – fresh from late goal-scoring antics at Bute – also stood out along with powerful Hayden Lau.

Porthcawl had the lead after 12 minutes, Morgan Thomas was played in, and rounded goalkeeper Tom Lewis to score.

In the 25th minute, a defensive mix-up led to Crofts netting and suddenly a nailed on Garw win was already looking dodgy.

It was 2-0 at the turnaround and when a deflected Croft goal enhanced the lead on 47 minutes that was game, set and match.

Just to make sure Fisher converted a Crofts cross for 4-0 on 52 minutes, and then some players and management staff got to know each other better during a touchline dust up.

When peace broke out, referee Geoff Martin only sent off Fisher of Porthcawl – most felt it should have been tit-for-tat red cards.

Even with 10 men, Porthcawl were the better side, and they also conceded a harsh 70th-minute handball penalty.

Dale Evans converted it and he was then fortunate to only get a yellow card following a shocking challenge on pint-size speedster Thomas that sent him hurtling towards the railings.
