Tough reception for Undy Athletic at Penybont

-

FOOTBALL

postpone the game.

Having a year ago lost 4-0 at Undy with a weakened side – Griffiths and Owain Warlow both seeing red – the Bridgend super club boss was in no mood to compromise.

Griffiths handed full debuts to Josh Jones and Ben Symons and having gone close several times, they took a 35th-minute lead.

A goalmouth melee developed and young Jones shot through a crowd of players to make a dream start to life in Division One.

Two minutes later Bradley Flay shot past James Smallcombe in the Undy goal while Symons and Josef Hopkins went close.

But it was 3-0 at the break after a beefy Kane Owen shot beat Small- combe from 22 metres out.

Though Marcus Power went close for Undy on the restart, another longrange Owen effort caused consternation. Smallcombe was unable to deal with it and up popped Cullen Kinsella for 4-0.

Daniel Jarman then pulled one back and soon after forced Rhys Wilson into making a telling save.

But what is fast becoming a Bont trait – Owen corner and Rhys Griffiths heads in – unfolded on 66 minutes, making it 5-1.

It was Kinsella again in the 68th minute, netting courtesy of an Owen pass, and soon after Flay drove home an Owen cross.

Undy then had substitute Dan Harvey sent off and close to time, Hopkins completed the rout with his side’s eighth goal.

Last night (Tuesday) Bont were due to visit Bridgend Street in the Nathaniel Cars Cup while they travel to newcomers Cwmamman United on Friday in the league (6.15pm).

Meanwhile, Penybont Girls U11 and U13s are looking for new players.

They train at the Kymco Stadium on Wednesdays 5-6pm. Call Jason Davies on 07511 848365.
