COGAN CORONATION 4 CORNELLY UNITED ..... 0

CORNELLY United were last night (Tuesday) due to go into a home derby clash with Porthcawl Town Athletic having lost all three opening league matches, writes Tony Poole.

Defeats against AFC Whitchurch, Cefn Cribwr Boys Club and Cogan Coronation have formed a disappointing start to the season for the Meadow Street boys.

They handed a senior debut to Lewis Willington at Cogan, but it simply wasn’t their day.

They failed to despatch some early goal-scoring opportunities and the die was cast as soon as Cogan took the lead midway through the half.

The Meadow Street boys responded with a decent raid that ended in Dale Smith just missing out on the end of a Willington ball.

The turning point arrived just ahead of half time when Cogan converted a penalty.

Cornelly brought on young Kian Wells early in the second half, but they were unable to get back into the game.

Two further goals made the result a formality, and Cornelly even finished the game with 10 men. With Callum Jones injured and the management team having emptied the bench, they were a man short during final knockings.

This Saturday, Cornelly United head to the capital to take on Clwb Cymric in another league fixture.

Last season Clwb Cymric just missed the promotion boat.
