KEV KICKS OFF
THE big news this week is the poor form of three of our regions.
Only the Scarlets won on the weekend and they played a poor Zebre team but won by 41-10 in poor conditions in Italy. The Blues lost 37-9 against Leinster in Dublin. It was a close game for 60 minutes then the floodgates opened. Shaun Edwards would be disgusted with some of the defence on show and there was no threat in attack. I think Peter Thomas needs to get his chequebook out and buy a few backs with some creativity!
The Dragons lost to Edinburgh but there were glimpses of improvement in Scotland. The boot of Gavin Henson kept them in the game but Edinburgh pulled away in the latter part of the game. The Ospreys couldn’t handle the pace of the Glasgow boys in Scotstoun. They seem to have lots of tempo in their game and blew Ospreys apart. Early doors there wasn’t much creativity and the sooner Rhys Webb, Dan Biggar and Alun Wyn Jones etc get back playing the better. The team will play with these experienced boys running the plays in attack and defence. I’m not sure if they are available for Munster at the Liberty Stadium next week but I really hope so. It is early in season so we shouldn’t panic but the lack of attack and energy is a worry. Let’s hope they all get back to winning ways this weekend.
The Ravens again had a disappointing performance in Swansea losing 22-6 and puts them bottom of their league and the sad thing is there are no easy games.
There were a few derbies which were interesting. Maesteg Quins stuffed Maesteg. The Ath beat Tondu and Heol-y-Cyw lost at home to Llanharan, and Kenfig Hill beat Aberavon Quins at home. Well done to all winning teams. QUESTION: What do you think of the SA teams so far in the Pro14?
Absolutely rubbish in the first two games. I’m not sure how long these teams have been together but they look like teams that have been put together on the day. I think they might get competitive on home soil but they have leaked 50 points a game in the first two games which is not pretty to look at.
