Tech staff get together to help raise vital cash for kids
TEAM members at one of Wales’ leading factories have teed off for the 10th year, raising more than £20,000 for children at a Bridgend hospital.
Staff from Sony UK Technology Centre took to the green for the annual Golf Day in aid of the children’s ward at the Princess of Wales Hospital.
Golfers joined their teammates and 72 others at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Course for the charity event.
Throughout the day those who joined in included supporters of the Pencoed facility including suppliers and third-party manufacturing clients, along with local businesspeople, and stars of the sporting world. The event took place at the prestigious course, which has hosted the Senior Open Championships and the British Masters, for the first time this year to mark the fundraising day’s 10th anniversary.
Thanks to the generosity and support of all those involved over £20,000 was raised, surpassing Sony UK TEC’s original fundraising target.
Sony UK TEC managing director Steve Dalton OBE, said: “We are delighted to have supported the Princess of Wales Hospital through this extremely enjoyable event.
“This hospital has played an absolutely integral role in the treatment of children throughout local communities, so we are proud to be able to support them once again.
“We would like to thank the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club for their support in enabling this event to go ahead. We would also like to thank all participants who joined us on the day.
“Sony UK TEC is a community focussed facility, which consistently aims to work for the benefit of the people who have supported its growth.
“As such, it is our privilege to have built up a strong relationship with Princess of Wales Hospital and we look forward sup- porting them in the years to come.”
The event is part of the Pencoed facility’s continued commitment to supporting and enhancing local communities.
As part of this mission, Sony UK TEC has chosen to support the work of the Princess of Wales Hospital’s children’s ward in Bridgend, with all funds raised across its various charitable initiatives helping to support the specialist unit.
Since it began supporting the cause four years ago, staff at Sony UK TEC have raised over £40,000 for the ward, which cares for children up to the age of 16 who may have complex medical needs.
Thanks to the support of Sony UK TEC the ward has benefitted from a com- plete refurbishment of the family room, supported the purchase of three Vapotherm machines that help babies and children
with breathing difficulties. Additional donations have included hand-held pulse oximeters, drip stands and other pieces of equipment.
