AFC BUTETOWN .......... 1 GARW ............................. 4

AT the end of week conservatively ranked turbulent, Garw placed politics to one side and made AFC Butetown labour with a liberal helping of skill, writes Tony Poole.

With manager Ryan Blanche having stood down, two stars from the golden generation of Blandy football – Kevin Day and Dai Samuel – took caretaker control in the capital against lowly AFC Butetown at Canal Park.

And it only took three minutes for snooker baron Day to see the Blandy boys right on cue in pocketing a fine goal.

Lewis Davies played in Damien Bernard, and the ex-Llangeinor and Betws star did the rest with a finish out of this world.

And it wasn’t long before Bute were really snookered, as hungry hitman Lewis Davies opened his seasonal goal account.

Soon after a 60-metre Kristian Evans floater was seized on by Ryan Penny-Hughes, and he banked a fourth goal of the season.

It was 3-0 at the break and though Bute pulled a goal back through Josh Lima, revival hopes were knocked on the head.

In the 75th minute, Garw won a free kick that Oliver Davies stood over, and he promptly planted it in the penalty area.

For once substitute Dai Broom used his head to brush a header past Gareth Davies in the home goal.

That was game, set and match Blandy with four players going the extra mile on the day – Kristian Evans, Tondu cricket star Jimmy Hardwick, Rhys Thomas and Sean Williams.

This Saturday, Garw host Cadoxton Barry in the league while they’ve been paired away to Ynyshir Albion on November 4 in the second round of the league’s W J Owen Open Cup.

Garw Reserves were disappointed a home game with Caerau last Saturday in Bridgend & District League Division One was called off, as a referee wasn’t available.

On Saturday, Garw are due to visit Tondu Robins in the league.
