A MICRO pub is now doubling as a gallery so local artists have somewhere to display their work.

The award-winning Little Penybont Arms in Pencoed now has more than 20 works on its walls courtesy of Pencoed and District Art Group.

Landlord Gareth Roberts, who gave them the space with a view to having a permanent display, said: “It’s a community pub doing community things”.

The micro pub on Penybont Road opened twoand-a-half years ago and has won Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) awards for cider pub of the year.

The art group was formed in 2013 and is designed for leisure and pleasure while promoting painting in general.

Most of the members in the club are self-taught and several attend local adult classes.

The club currently has 13 members, but is looking to grow and would welcome new members of any ability.

It meets every Thursday evening at the Woodlands Pavilion in Pencoed between 6.30pm and 9pm.

The group use the full range of mediums: watercolour, acrylic, oils, pastels, pen and ink.

Demonstrations and workshops have been undertaken and two successful exhibitions held in Bridgend in the last two years.

Anyone interested in joining Pencoed and District Art Group or just wants to know some more information about the work displayed can contact Ron Dobie on 01656 864394 or Bob Price on 01656 865873, who are members of the art group and are regulars at the pub.
