I MUST congratulate Rhys Webb on signing a threeyear contract with Toulon. It’s a fantastic move for him and his family at this time in his career and it’s great Toulon will release him for internationals – if he’s allowed to play. I’m hoping the WRU will rethink their new policy. It is a ridiculous rule and players and coaches across Wales are not happy. Webby has been a great servant to the Ospreys and Wales but as I said before, one bad injury and you’re finished in this game and loyalty doesn’t pay the mortgage and bills – and once you’re finished you’re soon forgotten in all sport sadly. So I’m glad he’s got his reward for a great career so far and hopefully a fresh challenge. I know Webby is gutted with the situation but he’s just got to focus on getting back fit and sharp for the Ospreys and for Wales in the autumn internationals.

Well done to Cardiff Blues on a fantastic 17-15 win over in Toulouse and the Dragons beat a Moscow team Enisei STM 2821. There were close losses for Scarlets and Ospreys. The Scarlets lost at home 18-13 with ex-Scarlets outside-half Rhys Priestland kicking all the points and the Ospreys put in a strong performance losing to Saracens 36-34.

Sorry I missed the column for the last two weeks. Allan Bateman and I were playing for the RAF Vets team in Jersey. It was a superb tournament with teams from all over Europe. We ended up winning the plate final which was a great achievement with the team getting together just before the tournament. QUESTION: What do you think of Warren Gatland’s decision that he won’t take charge of the Lions in 2021?

It must have been a tough call for Gatland as he’s been a fantastic coach for Wales and the Lions. He’s got a great record with both teams. The coaches have had some nasty criticism since they got back. I honestly think it’s a bit gutless from players going to the media after the tour is over – why didn’t they knock on the coaches’ door and speak face to face if they weren’t happy and do it while on tour?
