Cefn double takes them up to fourth

-

CEFN Cribwr completed a quickfire double over Cogan Coronation to go fourth in the table, writes Tony Poole.

Earlier in the month, Scott Dryden’s side crowned a tip-top display with an 8-0 home win over Cogan.

Though the goal-scoring prowess wasn’t as prevalent in the rematch, it nevertheless resulted in another convincing win.

Injuries led to changes in personnel and it wasn’t long before the Riders exploited the wide open spaces that the pitch provided.

After 15 minutes, Dan Jenkins went for goal and a deflection led to it going in with Jason Cave waiting to pick up any crumbs.

And soon after another former Cornelly United star, Rhys Alden, opened a Cae Gof goalscoring account.

The young starlet took aim from 20 metres out, and a thunderbolt duly doubled the Cefn lead.

The Riders were in complete control at this juncture and more goals should have flowed.

But Cogan then bucked up their ideas while the visitors hit a sticky patch and had their lead halved by Nicky Coles.

Bookings were handed out like confetti in the approach to half time, and this also disturbed Cefn rhythm.

However, the Riders took a 2-1 advantage into the second half and once more they began to sing off the same hymn sheet.

They extended the lead when an electric Gordon Watt shot bulged the net to give him six goals for the campaign.

And the points were heading back to Cae Gof once goal poacher Jinxy struck again to make it 4-1.

“But for a blip just before half time, the boys played well and deserved the three points,” said Cae Gof chief Dryden.

Cefn Cribwr, who have enjoyed much cup success already this season, will on Saturday head back on this trail.

They have been paired away with first-division Cardiff Draconians in the South Wales Alliance W J Owen Open Cup.
