Llantwit saved by major recovery act

-

LLANTWIT Major once again pulled off another major recovery act to squeeze a point out of this Vale of Glamorgan derby clash with Dinas Powys at Windmill Lane, writes Tony Poole.

But the Windmillers had to come from 2-0 down at the break to keep an unbeaten league record going.

It’s one of countless comebacks that they’ve achieved in recent weeks, and the latest became necessary after Marc Bloom shot the Murch men into an early lead.

At this juncture the Windmillers were going nowhere fast with little fluidity or pattern attached to their play.

Worse followed when the visitors went two goals up - a brilliant Rueben Bryl goal left the Windmillers with it all to find. That was the half-time score and on the resumption, Sammy Snaith warmed the hands of the goalkeeper via a stinging shot. Former Penybont star Shaun Barney-Williams had a header scrambled off the goal-line ahead of Llantwit Major dragging themselves back into contention.

Kristian Smith and Rob Jones made progress down the left flank in the 58th minute and following a bout of penalty area pinball, Smith got the Midas touch for 2-1.

Windmill chief Karl Lewis then sent on Joshua Jones, and it wasn’t long before he had an effort cleared off the goal-line.

Another Joshua Jones raid on goal produced a similar result, and eventually the equaliser came close to the final whistle.

From a quickly taken Connor Goldsworthy corner, top scorer Rob Jones arrived on the scene to calmly slot home a seventh goal of the season.

Though both sides pushed for a winner during final knockings, a point apiece was considered about right.

Next up for Llantwit Major on Saturday is the big J D Welsh Cup showdown at Division Two rivals Ammanford.
