CADOXTON BARRY ..... 1 CEFN CRIBWR BC ........ 2

LIFE remains a breeze for Cefn Cribwr at the moment, as this significant victory at wet and windy Cadoxton Barry led to them cementing third position, writes Tony Poole.

Unbeaten in the league since late August – when neighbours Porthcawl Town triumphed 2-1 at Cae Gof – the Riders won more comfortably in Dinas Powys than the scoreline suggests.

Two goals from ex-Cornelly United showman Daniel Jenkins – giving him seven for the season – did the trick for the Riders on this occasion.

Though down the years Dinas Powys hasn’t been a happy Cefn hunting ground, that all changed for Scott Dryden’s buoyant class of 2017/18.

The Riders carved out a few half chances early on but the biggest miss came from Cadoxton, who fluffed an open goal.

And the opening goal midway through the half went to Cefn with Tom Harris playing Jinxy through on goal.

A crisp left-foot shot proved too good for Mark Hussey in the home goal – but the lead didn’t last long.

In the approach to half time, Dean Raven caught Cefn on the hop and he duly restored parity.

Into the second half and Cefn gradually turned the screw to dominate possession.

And one-touch passing – that Cae Gof chief Dryden frequently preaches – paid a rich dividend.

It result in Jinxy wriggling free, and he got the better of advancing goalkeeper Hussey to restore the Cefn lead.

Chances then went begging to double the lead and during final knockings the Riders were content to wind down the clock.

“This was a huge and deserved win with the boys displaying plenty of guts and commitment,” said Cefn boss Scott Dryden.

“And another major test awaits us on Saturday at second-placed FC Cwmaman.’’
