Nasty surprise as mouldy chocs in advent calendar

FOR many, opening door number one on the advent calendar and having that first taste of chocolate signals the true start of Christmas.

But that moment was almost ruined for this South Wales family, who made a disgusting discovery when opening the first few doors.

Mum Ceri Williams had bought each of her three children a festive calendar to open on December 1, and was placing them by the Christmas tree in preparation the day before.

But upon picking up the Justice League-themed collection of sweet treats for her eight-year-old son Danny, Ceri, 26, noticed something wasn’t quite right.

Ceri, from Nantymoel, Bridgend, said: “I could smell something funny, and I said to my friend Rebecca Adams, who was here ‘this doesn’t seem right’.

“I opened the first door and there was mould and fur all over the chocolate. I have never smelt anything like it in my life.

“Danny was disgusted, too. We’ve never seen anything at all like this before.”

She said she bought all three advent calendars from Poundland on Adare Street, Bridgend, a few days before Halloween, but they were all still in date.

She explained: “I was lucky enough Rebecca was here and she drove us all over the valley for about half an n hour until we e were lucky to o find a new w one.

“I’m so o grateful to o her. Danny y would have been so upset if he’d woken up p without an n advent cal- endar.”

So has it put Ceri off Poundland altogether? She said: “I will go back but not for the food products or chocolate.

“If I hadn’t seen it first, Danny could have eaten it and it would’ve made him ill.” Ceri said she got in touch with the store over Faceboo Facebook and they are sending her a voucher as compensat tion. A spokeswoman f rom Poundland told W Wa l e s O nline: “That’s c clearly not a as it should be. If Ceri gets in touch with where and when she bought it, we’ll investigate and she can return it to the store for a refund or replacement.”
