TREFOREST .................. 1 PORTHCAWL TOWN .... 5

PORTHCAWL Town top scorer Jorge Crofts got another hat-trick to chop down struggling Treforest at the White Tips Stadium, writes Tony Poole.

This gave the young hitman a remarkable 24 goals for the season out of 53 the team has scored in all competitions.

But more to the point it got the show back on the road for table-topping Town after the “Hammer Horror Show” the previous week at Aber Valley when losing 3-1.

Back in August, Porthcawl carded a 4-1 win at Lock’s Lane over Treforest – and the rematch proved more of the same.

Once more the Seasiders benefited from an early goal, and this time around it unfolded after just three minutes.

Crofts latched on to a loose ball in the penalty area, and a cool finish gave Porthcawl another dream start.

The 50th team goal of the season arrived in the 18th minute when a telling Mattie Ellis through ball allowed Crofts to make it 2-0.

Travelling fans saluted the Crofts hat-trick goal just before half time only for Porthcawl to go down to 10 men on the hour.

No-nonsense defender Andrew Emery saw red for two bookable offences and soon after Treforest reduced arrears to 3-1.

But any thoughts that the 10 men were about to cave in were quashed in the 72nd minute.

A delightful one-two – involving powerhouse Hayden Lau and Morgan Thomas – led to Lau finishing with aplomb to move the score on to 4-1.

And they rounded off a satisfactory display with a closing goal – Lau getting another goal from a Morgan Thomas assist.

A 10th league win with three drawn from 15 starts left Porthcawl a point in front of Cefn Cribwr, who have two games in hand.

This Saturday Porthcawl welcome Trebanog to Lock’s Lane in what’s likely to be a humdinger between two sides actively involved in the quest to secure Premier Division status.
