ABER VALLEY ............... 2 GARW ............................. 3

GARW succeeded where leaders Porthcawl Town failed the week before in lowering the colours of Aber Valley in Abertridwr Park, writes Tony Poole.

Aber came in to the clash buoyed by a 3-1 win over the Seasiders, but the distress flares went up once they went 3-0 down just before half time.

But the Blandy boys, who were once again under the baton of snooker baron Kevin Day and his young assistant Dai Samuel, were then guilty of taking their eye off the ball.

It led to Aber Valley rallying, and ultimately Garw were relieved to hear the sweet sound of the final whistle.

And the talisman for the Blandy boys on this occasion was much travelled Damian Bernard – who has taken in spells at both Llangeinor and Betws – who knocked in as sweet a hattrick as you’ll see all season.

That’s moved him on to four goals for the season – one behind chart topper Dale Evans – and level with Ryan Penny-Hughes who is now strutting his stuff down in Cornelly.

But while there were plenty of pats on the back afterwards for Bernard, it was an outstanding showing from Ashley Jones that put meat on the bone of the Garw display.

Also back were youngsters Lewis James and Zacharias Edwards, who were regular Blandy medical room occupants.

A magnificent seventh league win of the season from 11 matches with one drawn resulted in the Blandy Boys taking possession of sixth spot in the table.

This Saturday, Garw visit Llantwit Fardre while on December 16 they welcome AFC Whitchurch to iconic Blandy.

In the Celtic Tyres Bridgend & District League Division One, Garw Reserves lost 6-1 against visiting Maesteg Park.

Andrew Morris got the Garw goal while John Lewis once more pushed for a place on the top Blandy table.
